This thread contains questions that are frequently asked.
If you have anything you'd like to see added here, such as questions that you had as a beginner or that you otherwise think would help other members, please send a message to Sloth or one of the mods.
Question: How do I create a character?
Answer: Head on over to our Pending Applications board! Read through the threads at the top (the trait list is optional but it can really help if you're stuck on figuring out what your character's personality will be like).
If you're creating a warrior, elder, or outsider, make sure to CTRL + F the name you want to ensure it has not already been taken.
If you have any specific questions about character creation, please contact Stormy & Sloth or ask in the chatbox to the left!
Question: What ranks can I create through application?
Answer: You may create a kit, apprentice, warrior, or elder.
Question: I would like to create a kit. Do they need parents? What should I do?
Answer: If you're creating a kit that was not rolled using our litter system, you have several options:
1) You can create the kit without any history or mention of family. It is assumed that the entire Clan takes care of your kit.
2) You can create the kit, name their parents, and either adopt the parents out to other members or play them yourself.
3) You can post in our plotting board to see if anyone would be interested in having one of their characters adopt your kit as their own.
Question: Can my cat be [breed name]?
Answer: We allow most breeds: you can make a cat that looks like a Bengal or you can make a pointed cat (such as a Siamese or Burmese); however, they cannot be purebred unless they are (or were) kittypets. Here is a list of breeds we do not allow:
-Persians and other flat-faced cats, as they are known to have breathing problems
-Sphynxes and other hairless cats, as they will not survive snowy winters outside
-Munchkins, as they are small, cannot run well, and may have spine-related health problems that lead to dying during kithood
-Lykois
-Savannahs and other breeds that are extremely close to wild cats in nature, size, and temperament
More breeds are subject to be added later.
Question: Why can't I play a male tortoiseshell or calico?
Answer: Male tortoiseshells and calicoes are extremely rare in real life--about 1 in 3,000, in fact. The genes they carry are sex-linked, and typically only cats with XX genes have those coat patterns. A male tortoiseshell or calico almost always has XXY genes, leading to infertility and other problems.
You cannot create one through application due to their rarity, but you may be able to get one through a litter roll or as a contest prize, so keep an eye out!
Question: Can my character have a defect?
Answer: It depends.
A character cannot be made from scratch as fully blind, deaf, or missing a limb. A character cannot be created polydactyl, or with virtiligo or albinism. Several of these are included in our litter rolls.
A character can have one blind eye as a result of an injury in history, but it has to actually make sense and it should work with the character as part of who they are--it shouldn't be added in just for the "fun" of it/just for the sake of getting around the rule.
Your character can end up with defects in roleplay via injury or illness at any time, but please note that how their Clan leader deals with this will vary. Some leaders might retire the cat to the elders' den, whereas others might be more willing to accommodate the cat in other ways.
Please note that having a defect does not increase your character's chances in becoming a medicine cat apprentice in any way, shape, or form.
Question: I have a question about a condition (ie mental, physical, ect) for a character I want to create but it could be considered as a disorder. How do I know if this is something that will be accepted via application?
Answer: If you have any questions about possible conditions/disorders that you might have, please post it in the help board (Please tag staff as well). If you see that a staff member has not answered you within a week please reach out via pm.
Question: What is the difference between heterochromia and sectoral heterochromia?
Answer: Heterochromia is when each eye is a different color. This involves the whole eyes, for example the left eye is green and the right eye is blue.
Sectoral Heterochromia is when there is two different colors in one eye. For example the right eye has green with a section of blue in it. This could happen in one or both eyes.
Question: What is difference between a split face tortoiseshell/calico versus a chimera on EOD?
Answer: Calicoes/ torties that are not chimera may have a split face as long as it doesn’t split the face 100% vertical. Your cat cannot pass down the pattern via litter kits. Chimera's may have a complete split along the face and may pass down the pattern to their offspring.
Staff is at liberty to decide if a cat looks too much like a chimera while checking the application.
Question: Can my character be a loner/kittypet/rogue who joins a Clan?
Answer: It depends.
FogClan is the least likely to accept outsiders. They will put your character through a lot of shit, and even then, they might not take your character in.
SootClan is a bit more likely to take in an outsider than FogClan. They will put your character through some tests, but they will probably let them join.
MarshClan is the most likely to accept an outsider. The leader may decide to accept an outsider outright or ask the clan to decide. MarshClan probably wouldn't be interested in testing your character, but they would expect your cat to acclimate to MarshClan culture quickly.
If you're interested in having a loner join a Clan, please make sure to contact Sloth or Mal and the respective leader/s to discuss having an outsider join a Clan!
Question: Can I add a list of genetics to my character application?
Answer: Yes, but only non-litter born characters. Genetics are considered an addition to the appearance section of an application and litter-born characters only have rolled appearances.
Question: Why don't you allow transgender/agender/etc characters?
Answer: In Warriors, there seems to be a lack of gender. They know sex. They know that Firestar inseminated Sandstorm. But they don't have any sexist views or gender roles. There was never a time where Runningnose was told he couldn't be a medicine cat because he was male, nor was there a time where Squirrelflight was told she couldn't fight because she was a girl. There is no gender, so there can't very well be transgender characters. Every cat serves the same purpose in the Clan, in that sense. The only difference is that queens are in the nursery nursing, because they're the ones that get pregnant, give birth, and produce milk.
Question: Do character bans affect In-Character events?
Answer: The clan statistics and ban regulations affect character applications and litter-rolls ONLY. In character plots discussed by clan leaders/representatives and the admin are exempt from current restrictions. Please note just because an event is happening IC there is no guarantee it will have the end result you want. Again; be sure to contact the clan’s representative and the admin if you’d like your character to join a clan.
Question: Can my character be half-clan?
Answer: It depends. Depending on which clan your character is in determines if there is a chance on halfblooded characters.
FogClan Due to their bias against other clans it is very unlikely for a Fogclanner to have kits with someone outside of the clan. Because of this you may NOT outright create a character that is half blooded.
MarshClan Is the most likely to have half blooded warriors in their ranks. You can create one as long as it's not banned in our Bans/Encouragements thread.
SootClan Is a bit more likely to have half blooded warriors in their ranks. You can create one as long as it's not banned in our Bans/Encouragements thread.
Question: I made a character who had a litter in their history, does this count as one of the three litters they can have?
Answer: Yes, any and all litters in a cat’s history upon creation, regardless of whether those kits are still alive or not, will count towards your cat’s limit for litter rolls. Miscarried litters are exempt.
Question: Do cats have to be mates in order to have kits?
Answer: Nope! Flings can be fun.
Question: How many threads do two characters need in order to have kits together?
Answer: Two thread with eight posts minimum in each. There is an item in the shop to decrease the amount of threads required from two to one.
Question: How many threads does a queen need to be pregnant in before she can give birth?
Answer: One.
Question: Are members required to play out birth threads?
Answer: Not at all! Members can opt to messaging all of the kits' players that their characters have been born.
Question: How are litters rolled?
Answer: Litters are rolled using a dice-based system written by Stormy .
Question: Can gay characters have kittens together?
Answer: Yes! Gay characters have a few options for having kits together:
1) In a male x male relationship, one tom can inseminate a female. If the involved members purchase a Multi-Fathered Litter, then both toms can inseminate the molly, guaranteeing that both of their genes will be in the litter!
2) In a female x female relationship, one or both of the partners can request one or more males to impregnate her. The partners can then raise their kits all together.
3) The partners can adopt kits from a Clanmate (or an outsider) and raise them as their own.
For a member not involved in the litter's creation to have parental adoption rights there must be consent from all three parties before the litter is rolled. So for example; a male couple decides they would like to have kits. They go to a female and ask her to have their kits. She agrees, therefore all three characters have parental rights over adopting the kits. Now in that same couple one of the males decides to go and have kits with a female without including their male mate; the male mate not involved in the procreation does not have parental rights.
Question: I want my molly to have another litter of kittens, but her current offspring haven't had their apprentice ceremonies. What should I do?
Answer: Your character can have another litter rolled after one real-life month since the last kits' birth.
Question: Why can't I used synonyms or change the wording for the description of rolled litter kits?
Answer: This is because additional appearance traits could be added to the kit. Since the kit was rolled the parents could not have a trait that was added when a synonym or equivalent description is used.
Question: Why is there a limit on the amount of litters I can have per season?
Answer: This is to try to keep kit and apprentice bans to a minimum; due to mentor requirements, only so many kits and apprentices can be in a Clan at a given time, otherwise we risk having no available warriors to mentor apprentices!
This also allows a wide range of members to have litters, as each member can only have 3 litters per season.
Question: What if I’m never contacted about my litter born kit and no birth thread is made?
Answer: Reach out to the parents of the kit and see if they are planning on making a birthing thread. If you do not receive a response in a timely manner please contact staff.
Question: I adopted a character out to another member for a plot, but that member disappeared! What can I do?
Answer: Because the character was for a plot, if the adopter's account has been deleted, you're free to give the character away to someone else. See rules on inactivity for more information.
This rule does not apply to kits born in litters. They are always exempt from this and may only be re-adopted if the adopter specifically states they can be re-adopted. Unless the user states at adoption if they become inactive the kit may be readopted out.
Question: What are the conditions that must be met before I can readopt a character?
Answer: To be able to readopt a character one of the following conditions must be met:
1) The member is flagged as inactive after missing activity checks or is deleted.
2) The member gives the cat back of their own free will. Public call-outs or harassment of a member on any medium to give the cat back to you will not be tolerated, however, you may ask nicely once if they would consider returning the cat if they don’t have time for the plot.
3) When you adopted out the character, you placed a disclaimer with conditions of adoption that the adoptee has not upheld where they have agreed to allow the readoption of the character if unable to meet those conditions.
Question: What are the requirements for readopting a character after it has been returned?
Answer: The original adopter must make a staff request to move the application to the archives and state they are giving the character back to the original owner for readoption. Unless, the original adopter’s account has been marked as inactive or deleted.
When adopting out the character again, you must show proof (ie a link to the staff request where the original adopter gave back to the character). You must also provide the old application so the new adopter can add that link to their application.
The new adopter must have the link to where they adopted the character along with the link to the old application from the original adopter.
Question: I adopted a litter kit and the old application has a different appearance description than the roll. Which appearance description should I use?
Answer: Always use the original litter roll description.
Question: How often do characters age on Edge of Dusk?
Answer: There is no set aging system on EoD. Members are encouraged to age their characters however they see fit.
Question: What are the requirements for my kit to become an apprentice?
Answer: One complete roleplay thread, with at least 6 posts in the thread.
Question: What are the requirements for my apprentice to become a warrior?
Answer: Two training threads (with at least 6 posts) of any kind: Swimming, climbing, hunting, fighting, anything that warriors would consider important skills.
You are free to continue an apprentice's training for longer than the required threads.
You can switch out the second required thread with a purchase available in the shop. The required thread will need to be replaced by any kind of completed thread.
Question: Do both of my apprentice’s training threads have to be with their mentor?
Answer: No, training threads only need a warrior from your apprentices respective clan to be valid.
Question: My apprentice's mentor disappeared! What do I do?
Answer: If the mentor's roleplayer has been gone for two or more weeks, feel free to find them a new mentor using our mentor-finding board. Make sure to PM the player of your character's old mentor to let them know that you've switched!
Question: How many apprentices can my warrior have at once?
Answer: Your warrior can mentor up to three apprentices at one time. Make sure you can handle all of them before you take them on!
Question: What links do I need to include when I remake my characters application?
Answer: You must include the following three if they are applicable for clan characters:
Adoption Link - Where you adopted the character from originally.
Old Application - The link to the old application.
Ceremony Link - The link to the ceremony thread where your character ranked up.
Question: How often do leaders hold ceremonies?
Answer: It depends on how busy the leader's roleplayer is.
Question: How do I age up my outsider (ie. loner/kittypet/rogue)?
Answer: If you wish to increase the age of your outsider you will have to remake the character application. These remade applications are treated just like in clan character rank ups and the complete thread rule with your last created character does not apply in order to make the application. Links to completed threads with the outsider you wish to age up ARE required. Just the same as in clan character would need to rank up.
For kit age outsiders (0-5 moons) to age up to apprentice age (6-12 moons) it is required to include on the application a link to one completed thread with at least 6 posts in the thread.
For apprentice age outsiders (6-12 moons) to warrior age outsiders (13 moons +) it is required to link 2 different complete threads with at least 6 posts in the thread, in the application.
If you are aging up your outsider from kit age to warrior age you must include in 3 different complete threads with that character with at least 6 posts in each thread.
Question: Can I remake an application to change my character’s personality traits and/or skills?
Answer: Yes! As long as there is a valid IC reason for this and the update is included in their history and/or personality paragraph.
Question: What counts as a completed thread?
Answer: A thread must have at least 6 replies in order to be considered complete. This applies to both litter roll requirements AND rank ups.
If a thread has not been replied to in 3 weeks it can be considered complete. This is for rank ups ONLY.
All completed threads require roleplaying with another member, a thread with yourself is permitted on EoD but will not count towards a completed thread requirement.
Question: How do I use Posting Templates?
Answer:
The Posting Template area can be accessed from each members' profile settings. First, go to your Profile, then click Edit Profile, then click the Settings tab; however, for some reason, the plug-in does not show right away, so you must reload the page until the Posting Template area appears. From there you can create Templates that will let you save whatever you'd like for easy access in your posts.
Question: What do "Open", "Tagged", and "Private" mean?
Answer: These are the different types of roleplay threads that members create.
An open thread is a thread in which anyone can join.
A tagged or private thread is a thread in which only members whose usernames are tagged (@ username, without the space) may join.
Question: Can I get a refund on my purchases?
Answer: Refunds for items purchased in the store may only be refunded within 30 days of purchase.
Question: I archived an apprentice that I bought a warrior name for, what should I do?
Answer: Requesting the name to be removed from the Used Name list is the first step. To have the name be removed you must state that you would like that name to be removed, you must also include the link to the staff request where you asked the character to be archived, and you must also include the link of the transaction of the warrior name you bought.
Once you have made the request for the name to be removed from the Used Name list, your request for a refund for the purchased warrior name will be processed by staff.
This only applied to apprentices & kits archived before they were made warriors. If you unarchive the apprentice you will have to repurchase the warrior name. If the name is used by another member after you requested it to be removed that name becomes unavailable. You will NOT be able to use it.
Question: How often do seasons change?
Answer: Seasons change around every other month. This allows everyone to have some breathing room when creating their thread in the middle of a season.
Question: How often are gatherings held?
Answer: Gatherings coincide with season changes, so they will last for a full two months.
Question: If I archived my character can their name be removed from the Used Name list?
Answer: No. Once a name is used it may not be removed from the list. This does, in fact, include names of characters who are deceased or have been archived. This prevents both confusion and confrontation if a character with a used name returns (via being un-archived or visiting from Starclan). We do not want to see overlap and arguments, hence the permanence of the Used Name list.
Question: What counts as foster siblings?
Answer: This varies depending on the roleplayer’s viewpoint and the way the character’s are approaching the relationship, so it can be hard to define. Typically speaking if a cat is raised in its kithood by a parent it will be considered a foster sibling. If a cat is adopted during apprenticehood it will depend on the relationship. MarshClan cats who are raised with the help of the same permaqueen will be analyzed by staff.
If staff view any relationship as potentially incestuous they reserve the right to shut down the relationship.
Question: I missed an activity check and was moved to inactive! What do I do if I want to come back to the site?
Answer: When you return from inactive please contact staff if you’d like any created characters unarchived. If you have adopted a character contact the adoptee if you would like to continue playing the character, please know the adoptee may have adopted the character out again and they are permitted to decline your request for readoption.
A litterborn kit is yours to decide if you'd like to unarchive or not unless you state during adoption that the parents may readopt a kit if you go inactive. Contact staff if there are any plotting or tracking boards you’d like unarchived and if you have any questions about what’s happened on the site while you’ve been gone be sure to check the recent Old Stuff archives board and the information board for news.
An inactive member who has not logged in or made a post in the last 6 months will be deleted during activity checks.
Question: Why can't I use a prefix/suffix that is not on the list? Why don't you accept suggestions?
Answer: The answer to this is rather long, so I've put it within the following spoiler tag:
There are several reasons why I don't take name suggestions. On the last Warriors roleplay I ran, I did it with several friends (though this time I'm alone as far as administrating is concerned, so this is less of an issue), we had a thread for the first few months where members were free to make suggestions for prefixes and suffixes.
There were several issues we had:
1. People were suggesting random names that, out of the four of us, no one had ever heard of. There's no sense in having prefixes and suffixes that people have to look up to know, and in most cases it means that the prefix/suffix doesn't fit the setting to begin with.
2. There are over one-hundred prefixes. It seems odd to add more. As for suffixes, there are indeed less of them, but the ones that are available seem to work well enough. We allow many prefixes to be used as suffixes, which expands the suffix pool by quite a bit.
3. The incessant whining. I know not everyone would do this, but the amount of "but why did you allow that one and not this one?" was overwhelming.
4. The insane suggestions. We had Missile- and Diamond- as suggested prefixes. That was about when we shut the thread down, because we figured if people were so out of suggestions that they threw those in there, we had enough prefixes (and most of the prefixes we had on that forum I brought over here since the list was from one of my older forums anyway).
5. I get very tired of the discussions and arguments over whether or not a prefix/suffix should be allowed very quickly. It wears me out and makes me not want to be around. I have the list set up and finalized specifically to avoid having to argue and see members throw a tantrum and quit because they don't get what they want. I'm super picky about this stuff and I've always been bad at bending when it comes to prefixes and suffixes. I've read the Ailuronymy stuff over the years and it's always made me feel a little eh.
Beyond all of the other points, I just feel like having a bunch of extra prefixes and suffixes is unnecessary. On my last forum, several months in, after having members complain about us no longer taking suggestions, I made a list one day of all the prefixes that had never been used on a warrior-aged character. There were over 100. I don't see the sense in adding more names when such a massive chunk of them go unused already. How often do you see a Brown-? Why do there need to be more anyway? Where X could fit in, there's already Y and Z.
And who is to determine whether or not prefix G has meaning? The member who is applying could see it one way and staff could see it another way. As our staff team expands, are we going to have to discuss each prefix/suffix as it comes in to ensure we all approve of it? On the last forum I ran, all four of us admins very rarely all agreed to add in a prefix, so most of them got shot down, because one or two of us would say "Ehh, no" and then the other two/three would say "Well, I don't mind it, but if we're not all in agreement, then it won't be added" and then the member walks away unhappy and the staff walk away with wasted time.
I've been running Warriors forums on and off for about seven years now, and this is just one of those headaches I've dealt with in the past that I don't want to have to deal with now. As far as I'm concerned, it's better to have guests see the list, decide they don't like it, and move on, than to allow members to make suggestions, only for them to get shot down, cause an argument, and then the new member leaves and everyone is miserable.
Question: Can I donate money to other members?
Answer: Every member can have up to $100 donated to them per month. We love that our members are generous and want to help each other out, but older members tend to have a lot of money and we do not want them to give thousands of dollars to new members so those new members no longer have anything to work toward in the store.
Question: When is my account put into inactive?
Answer: If you know you are going to be inactive please post in the OOC board and we will mark your account so it isn't deleted during an activity check. When the activity check comes around and you don't post in it there are a few different things that may happen. If you have posted IC at least once and have been on the site in the last 2 months you will be marked inactive. If you haven't posted IC, havent been on the site in 3 months, and/or did not give notice of your absence your account will be deleted.
Question: Can I un-archive a character that is currently a banned rank?
Answer: If you are returning from being inactive you may un-archive one banned character so you may get back to roleplaying quickly!
If you have anything you'd like to see added here, such as questions that you had as a beginner or that you otherwise think would help other members, please send a message to Sloth or one of the mods.

Adoption FAQ
Character Ranking FAQ
Posting FAQ
EOD Store FAQ
Other FAQ
