It was a warm, new-leaf day in RavenClan, and the dark brown tabby she-cat named Vixenstone had decided to go out to the grassy place she had loved as an apprentice. The day was pretty clear, with just a few lazy moving clouds puttering about through the sky. It was nice, especially after the cold leaf-bare they had just lived through. 

Along the way, one of her sisters, Spiderbite, had asked to join her. With a quiet nod, it was quite alright to her. It was good spending time with someone other than her mate. Even though she loved him very much, she also loved her siblings. 

Soon, the pair had made it to their destination and still without a word, the Vixenstone plopped down in the grass and rolled to her back, her long feathery tail laying straight out. Casually, she yawned, waiting for Spiderbite to innitiate a conversation. It felt like everyone wanted to talk to her about something these days. Now that she was happy.

Spiderbite allowed the silence to stretch on for a while longer, lying on her side to admire the clouds. A few minutes passed before she nudged Vixenstone with a paw. "That one looks like a squirrel, doesn't it? With a really big tail..." She gestured toward it. "And that one over there--why, doesn't that look like a handsome warrior? I think this sky-cat would be a mate like no other! Far less moody than your tom, at the very least," she teased, testing the waters with a joking remark. Moody was an understatement. Spiderbite liked to think of herself as someone who got along with just about everyone; Snakebite was one of the few who fell outside of that category. If she were to be frank, she'd rather not share anything with him aside from a suffix.

She wouldn't say it to her face, but Vixenstone was making a pretty poor decision. That had Spiderbite's job since kithood, and she wasn't looking to let go of it so easily. She turned over to look into her sister's eyes, amber meeting amber. She wanted to understand, but... "You sure you can smooth out all those rough edges of his?"

Vixenstone felt her sister nudge her softly with her paw, and she turned her dark tabby head to look at the sky where her sister was looking. She laughed softly as she pointed out the cloud that looked like a squirell. "Yeah! She does." she said with a soft purr before directing her gaze to the new cloud being pointed out to her. Yet, she was a little taken aback by her sisters comment. Was her mate really that moody? She cocked her head, but didn't quite say anything yet. She had a habit of thinking everything out first.

After the first comment, she wasn't as shocked. She didn't see anything wrong with her mate. She loved him dearly, and would do anything for him. "What rough edges?" she said finally, almost reluctantly.

"Oh, so you're not with him for that bad tom charm?" Spiderbite asked, genuinely surprised. "Like, I haven't been around him recently, but... back when we were apprentices, remember how he kept picking fights with that one apprentice with the orange fur?" Her name escaped her at the moment, but she remembered the fight she'd witnessed. Her sister had been there for that one too. Like a FireClan cat, he'd said. Spiderbite didn't know if he meant it, or if he was just trying to get a rise out of her...Thinking back on it, it seemed like it might've been a way for him to show off. It had been a bloody mess; no way Vixenstone forgot about it. "And you kept trying to talk to him, but he just told you to shove off... You have to admit, he's not an approachable cat!"

She stretched out leisurely. "So what do you like about him? And what does he like about you?" Spiderbite had dealt with her share of prickly cats, tried to befriend them with varying rates of success. She liked to discover their hidden soft sides. The toughest she-cat could have a secret hobby in feather collecting! The tom with a permanent scowl could be the sweetest father to his kits. Sadly, some people weren't any nicer on the inside. She'd give her sister a chance to change her mind, but she had long marked Snakebite off as a tom who was rotten through and through. He liked to fight, he liked to argue, he liked to be number one. That was all he cared about. Had he really grown out of that?

Vixenstone did in fact remember the fight that Snakebite was talking about. It as in fact a bad one. She had spent many minutes trying to convince Snakebite to leave that poor little apprentice alone. She didn't chose to have a bright orange pelt. After it felt like forever, he did snap at her and tell her to go away. But Vixenstone couldn't really blame him. She did have a really squeaky, annoying voice. "I find him quite approachable when he's in a good mood!" The warrior declared. It was true. Snakebite was approachable sometimes.

Her sister continued on, asking her about what she liked about Snakebite. Well, there was a lot but Vixenstone wasn't quite sure how to put it into words. "Well, he's very handsome," she started, pausing. Vixenstone knew Snakebite didn't really like it if she told anyone about anything soft he did. "And he can be really nice sometimes. Just last week he brought me a snack from the fresh-kill pile!" Vixenstone had been quite proud about that. It was just so romantic of the large, black tom. The dark warrior purposefully avoided answering what Snakebite liked about her. She wasn't too sure, to be honest. Maybe she'd ask him when they returned. If he was in a good mood of course.

"Oh yeah, and how often's that?" she retorted a tad incredulously. But perhaps she was getting too worked up. She forced herself to settle down, breathing out slowly, draping her tail over Vixenstone's back and giving her chest fur a few absentminded licks as she listened to her sister. Her whiskers twitched skeptically. "I guess that's good." she commented, eyes flicking down to her paws. She supposed it fell under the category of nice, though in no way exceptional. Snakebite didn't exactly sound like he was moving mountains for her. And Vixenstone deserved someone who would move mountains for her. In the end, though, it was down to her. Spiderbite certainly wouldn't appreciate her family butting into her own romantic affairs--not that she had any. Unlike Vixenstone, it'd be a long while before she gave thought about that. 

"Well, you do you, Vixenstone. All I'm trying to say is... don't take any crap from him just because he's your mate. Keep that tom in line, eh? She winked and leaned in to give her sister a fond lick to her cheek.
