Snow cascaded from the skies these past two days and nights as if winter had decided to drop all of it in just those two days. The flamepoint javanese had stayed cooped up in the warm, cozy house, only a distant spectator to the cold and wet white of winter. She was perfectly satisfied with watching the hustle and bustle of snowflakes from her spot on the windowsill. When she felt like it, she would seek out the companionship of the big tawny dog or sneak into the beds of her housefolk where she would find warmth and comfort and hands that caressed her body.
She had only fond memories of winter so far.
But this time her cozy, cuddly time of the year had been tainted by thoughts and worries about the stray cats of the city. Only a year ago she had lived in blissful ignorance to the hardships cold and hunger would bring those cats that weren't as fortunate as she was. But this year was different.
And now as she stared out the window once more into the cold light of this winter morning, she found her thoughts drift back towards the afternoon in late autumn when she had met the stray named Wren. How beat down he had seemed. How lonely and sad. Yet how kind. She had got him to agree to spent the night in the shed behind her house, but he had been gone the next morning.
Her attention was drawn back outside. It had stopped snowing sometime during the night. Her blue gaze followed the housefolk kid as she ran through the backyard, yelping with glee as the dog chased her, now and again jumping at her and pushing her into the snow.
An affectionate purr rumbled in her chest at this sight. It was good seeing them get along so great and having fun.
Suddenly the mood changed as the dog broke away from the twoleg kit and stopped dead infront of the garden shed, barking wildly at its door.
Katelu's fur bristled.
Could it be?
For the first time in days did she jump down wildly from her cozy spot on the windowsill and through flap in the back door. She made a face as her soft pads met the cold, wet surface of the snow. Nonetheless she fought her way through the snow covered back yard, using mostly trails the dog had made before in order to not sink into the cold white walls.
Once she reached the dog by the shed, she let out a sharp, commanding mew at it. However the golden retriever had started pawing at the door and Katelu had to take different meassures.
She lashed out at the dog's snout with a quick slap. That shut it up. Brown eyes staring at her with betrayal visible in them, it almost made her feel sorry for the dog. "Get lost!", she hissed as she arched her back threateningly at the canine.
With a wimper the dog drew away from her and she watched it pad towards the puzzled looking twoleg-kit with regret. She would make it up to them later. Right now she was too apprehensive about wether her theory was correct.
Once she was certain the dog and kid were playing again, the cat and the shed forgotten, she pushed her paw behind the door and pulled it open wide enough to enter.
It took a while for her eyes to adjust to the darkness. Her nose however definetely smelled cat in here.
"Wren?", she asked into the shed with a wildly beating heart, lifting her head upwards towards the shelves where she knew the pillows where kept and the stray had slept in before.
