Seventeen years ago, a group of four Clans shared a forest. War and peace struggled to be the strongest force in the heart of every cat.
War won.
Over the course of a year, the Clans tore each other apart, destroying lives and molding the malleable minds of kits into believing that fighting was the only way of life.
At the end of it all, only a few cats remained. Their ancestors reached them in their dreams and told them that in order to survive, they needed to leave the land their families had inhabited for generations. They needed to get away from this cursed place where war and misery would always win out over peace and happiness.
Six years after the fighting ended, the cats journeyed to a new land, confident that StarClan would guide them. They found fields that stretched endlessly in the west, a thick forest with innumerable rivers and streams to the north, a light forest to the east, and a thick, mountainous forest to the southeast. They agreed to settle in the fields.
StarClan instructed these cats to preserve their traditions, to call themselves a Clan and to protect their borders from outsiders.
They spent moons coming up with a name before finally deciding on FireClan: Fire is warm and bright, but simultaneously painful and destructive. The warriors found solace in this balance.
FireClan was alone in this region for four years, free to roam and hunt with little opposition.
A group of strange cats came in from the north. They began to settle the forest, and FireClan welcomed them, glad to finally have outsiders to talk to and to compete with. They explained their traditions and the new cats adopted FireClan's culture quickly.
Within a few moons, the new cats announced themselves as RavenClan.
As one would expect, the novelty quickly wore off and the two groups were often at each other's throats.
Civil unrest was not helping matters. Cats within both Clans were unhappy with their homes, and they mingled with warriors of the other Clan, getting too close for the leaders' tastes.
In an attempt to regain control, FireClan's leader worked to become an oligarchy. They would be run by three leaders who made all of the decisions.
Seeing FireClan's change, RavenClan moved to a new governmental system of their own: Anarchy. The medicine cat would commence ceremonies and share prophecies with their Clan in addition to their healing duties. RavenClan cats agreed that they lived together as a result of mutual desire, and that they didn't need a leader to give them orders. They agreed to use common sense and basic morals to govern them.
FireClan broke out in civil war under the oligarchs.
After months of chaos, three leaders were agreed upon, and a small group of unhappy cats broke away to follow Willowsong, a RavenClanner set on creating a new Clan to the east.
Five years after RavenClan's creation, WillowClan was formed, and together the warriors decided that one family should rule over generations of cats, hence leading WillowClan to become a monarchy.
Two years have passed since the creation of WillowClan, and tensions are rising.
