Yesterday I was googling random pictures of cats and I stumbled across a sort of guide for tabby coloring, and I noticed something interesting. A gold cat with black stripes. In doing more digging, I’ve found that they actually exist.
Meet the sunshine tabby
An odd color mutation that has actually been acknowledged as a new coat color- here’s a more scientific paper on it and here’s a more condensed description.
To give very brief rundown, this color only appears in purebred Siberian cats, and the parents can not be golden in color or both parents must be sunshines- it’s a recessive gene. It seemingly can only be passed down to purebred Siberian cats, so any litter roll with a non Siberian cat and a sunshine cat would make it so the sunshine coloration would turn into a regular golden tabby.
However, with this coloration being so odd, I want to ask whether or not this would be allowed to make a sunshine tabby.
