Please do not post yet as this is a wip, pm me if you have suggestions, questions, or anything else! I'd love for a bunch of people to get involved in this c:
welcome to the arena
So, there isn't a load of fun things for outsiders to do, and there hasn't really been a big plot involving a ton of outsiders before. We want to change that. All cats (especially outsiders, and even clan cats) are welcome to join in. The arena is kinda like a cat version of the roman coliseum. Except with (hopefully) less gore. Cats come and fight for glory and prizes and cats come to watch the battles and various other games play out. Cats can also be captured and forced to compete when the traffic gets low. It is run by an oddly benevolent gang, the opposite of what you'd expect for what they do. Well, benevolent for now.Interested in how this will all turn out? Get a cat to join in with the plotting or watch from the sidelines, it's your choice! Each cat matters, even one more difference in opinion may tilt the scales and cause a ripple to affect the whole plot. The Arena has been going strong underground for the ten generations that made the clans develop and is just now starting to show it's face as a powerful group again. But will all this power go to the cats's heads?
questions/suggestions are welcome!
Descriptions of Set Ranks:
The Gamemaster is the cat who runs it all. The original Gamemaster came up with this idea, and each Gamemaster after them manage the place with an iron grip. The Gamemaster's word is law. They oversee the arena games, and decide a cat who yields in battle's punishment. They spend the most time planning the duels and games, as well as working out relationships with enemy and ally groups. The Recruiter is the cat who goes out and finds cats to fight in the arena. They spread the word of the upcoming games and are responsible for giving the gang members orders. They are the second-in-command to the Gamemaster. The Arena Keeper makes sure the arena is ready before and after each match and is responsible for keeping the area clean (cleaning up blood, discarding bodies, helping the injured). They also control the gladiators and prisoners and keep them in check. It is their job to keep the Den clean and make sure there is enough food and bedding to go around. They may also have some knowledge on ailments and herbs (bout not as extensive as a clan's medicine cat) and can act as a medic or healer. The Harem Keeper takes care of the harem. They are in equal standing to the Arena Keeper, and may also help with how the arena is run. It is their responsibility that enough Harem members show up at each match and many times choose to commentate the games. Both the Harem Keeper and the Arena Keeper are also in charge of the "market days" when there are cats selling and trading items. It depends on the cat, but any of the four main roles may take on pseudo apprentice(s) and train them for their role. They may have multiple apprentices or just one. Usually these are young, promising cats. They should be respected and are usually at their mentor's side watching and learning or doing errands for the mentor.
Note: The higher-ups and their apprentices (apps for the most part) cannot be clan cats or affiliated with another group. The higher-ups have to live with the gang to keep the order, and to be accessible at all times. Their loyalty must be 100% with the Arena. A clan cat simply cannot do this, as they are dedicated to their clan alongside the arena, same with another group. An apprentice may start out as a clan cat, but must either move to live with the gang within a few moons of joining or be forced to give up their position.
The Sponsors are cats who hold more power than the average audience member and can "sponsor" certain prisoners to make them gladiators or can sponsor already-made gladiators. Solely for bragging rights, or to win bets. Many sponsors are powerful cats who have contributed something to the gang in the past or are a supplier of goods/information, but do not want to be seen as full gang members and have their own private lives. Some of them do live with the gang, however, and may be seen as pseudo higher-ups. The Harem members (also known as Courtesans
Gladiators come to fight for food, shelter, and various other prizes. There are two types of gladiators. Firstly the Free Gladiators that come and go as they please and fight for prizes and glory. The second kind are the Captive Gladiators, who used to be prisoners and are now fighting for their freedom. If you are a Gladiator and win three battles in a row, (numbers may change) you are accepted into the gang as long as you are on the higher-up's good side (if you're an asshole to the gang and the higher ups they'll kick you to the curb no matter how many fights you've won). Gladiators may also be sponsored by cats in the gang to get a higher chance of getting in, but it is not uncommon for some to go without. The cats who did not come willingly are known as Prisoners. They were likely captured somewhere in the town or neighboring forest by the gang members and/or Recruiter, and brought to fight for their freedom. If a Prisoner wins a battle against a Gladiator, they can choose to either be freed or become a Gladiator in that cat's place and work their way up the rankings (why they would want to become part of the gang that captured them and forced them to fight for entertainment? i dunno). If they win against another Prisoner, they may be promoted to Captive Gladiator level depending on how many other games they have won and the skill of their opponent. If they lose then they must fight another day to be released.

Description of Territory:
The Arena is located in a dilapidated, overgrown twoleg cabin near to the Mountain Town and FogClan territory. It is often referred to as “the House” (mostly used by ex kittypets or cats raised by twolegs) or “the Den” (the more common of the two, used by cats raised in the wild.) It is not inside the town, but is close enough for cats to walk to the town and back for an errand in less than a day. The cats who reside in the house get a lot of their food from the town, though many of them are more comfortable hunting in the forest around their territory.
The house is not very sturdy but offers more shelter from wind and weather than being outside. It does tend to creak in strong wind and oftentimes rain comes in through the broken windows. The cats bring mosses (or grasses, ferns, etc.) from the outside to make nests like clan cats do. The higher-ups may use softer feathers from birds, animal hides, or even bits of soft fabric (stolen or found) in their nests. Cats may also lounge on old furniture left behind in the den, though the softest ones are reserved for the higher-ups and queens.
The bottom floor of the den is set up like a hub for cats to come and go. They have a setup for food and other goods to be traded for services, and a place for cats to advertise things like herbs, special stones, accessories they've crafted, etc. If a cat has gone missing, this is a good place to ask around to see if you can find anyone who knows where they are. It is most busy in the middle of the day (when most games are held) and late at night. The prisoners and gladiators sleep in one of the separate rooms, with at least two gang members as guards at all times.
The top floor is reserved for the rest of the members of the gang. Cats are not normally allowed upstairs unless they are part of the gang. There is a small room for the harem, and a larger room for the gang members. The sponsors who live in the den sleep in a third room reserved for the higher-ups and their apprentices.
There is a small outside area around the back of the house with a dilapidated fence and a few trees, any kits or cats who are too young to do duties and are apart of the gang are allowed to play out here when they are not inside the den. The "yard" area is mostly old grass with a few overgrown shrubs and flowers. There are also a few herbs hidden in the midst for healing, including a catmint plant. It is heavily punished if you take any of the herbs (especially catmint) without permission from any of the higher-ups. Sometimes Prisoners or Captive Gladiators may be allowed out here for some fresh air with a few guards to make sure they won’t try to stir up trouble.
A minute or so walk away down an unused dirt road leads to a large dusty clearing ringed by trees. It is here where most of the battles and games are held. Cats may sit around the edges or climb up into the branches to get a better view.
TL;DR: The base is just outside Mountain Town and near FogClan territory in a rundown abandoned house. It is most commonly referred to as "The Den." The lower floor in the house is for cats to sell things, and the upper floor is where the inhabitants sleep. There is a fenced in "backyard" area where herbs are grown and imprisoned cats are allowed to get some fresh air. There is a large clearing nearby where the fights and games are held.

Other Things you Need to Know:
Ear Holes:
Upon being captured by the gang, cats are given a scar to identify their rank. But not just any scar- a hole in the ear made by the tooth of a dog. The tooth has been passed down through the generations and it is said that it is the same one used by the original higher-ups. How they got this tooth in the beginning, no one knows, but you're bound to find stories if you ask.
-
Prisoners have one ear hole.
Captive Gladiators have two ear holes. Alternatively, Gladiators may have a red feather stuck behind their ear to indicate their status (This is the choice of many Free Gladiators).
Gang members have three ear holes.
Some sponsors have four ear holes (the ones who live with the gang).
Apprentices of the higher-ups have no ear holes.
Harem members are not given ear holes as they must look as pretty and unscarred as possible.
Higher-ups can choose whether to they want have ear holes or not, usually four or more.
Accessories:
Sometimes cats like to accessorize. Accessories are reserved for the The Harem and those who rank above. These are commonly things like feathers or leaves stuck in the fur, but may also include small bones, shells, or whatever a cat finds on their adventures. Cats usually use honey or sap (or anything else sticky they can find) to make these items stay. Sometimes the gang members are allowed to have an accessory or two, depending on how high they are in the gang-member ranking.
How Clan Cats Come in:
To the gang, clan cats can be apart of both their group and their clan at the same time. It is perfectly acceptable. Some ex-clan cats inside the gang or rogues do not like clan cats being allowed in, so be warned that joining may be risky.
Other Activities:
When they’re not battling, Prisoners and Captive Gladiators most of the time spend their day inside the room set apart for them, or outside in the protected "yard." Depending on how dangerous they’re considered, cats may also be taken out to hunt or do other activities with the gang.
To keep the group active, there will be other games and things cats can do whenever there isn't a battle going on. This may be things like solving riddles, trying to find a special item that has been hidden in the area, races, art contests, etc.
The gang members may also go on outings usually led by the Recruiter (the other higher-ups can step in if the Recruiter is unable to lead) to "kidnap" more cats to fight in the arena or convince stronger cats into joining. These may be NPC cats unless someone has offered a cat they want to be taken.

- FogClan is the clan closest to the arena, though their cats would likely be the least likely to join the gang. It does not take long to get to FogClan territory from the Den.
- MarshClan cats may travel to the arena to sell their art or wares, if it does not sell in their clan. This clan is probably the most likely to have cats be in the arena because of it's lax attitude towards the warrior code.
- SootClan is the furthest from the arena, and likely have the least involvement. It is not impossible for their cats to be involved, just less likely than the other clans.

Schedule of the Battles:
Battles happen in character every 1-2 weeks (1/4 to 1/2 moons.) Out of character, they happen whenever new cats are offered to fight. NPC battle threads may be made for plot reasons, or to fill in the gaps in time if there hasn't been cats offered to fight in a while. There are two types of battles: normal fights and death matches. In normal fights, the cats must fight until all but one has been rendered unable to continue (due to injury, not death). In death matches, well, all the opposing cats must be dead.
The first cat is always the one who has been waiting the longest, and their opponent(s) is/are randomly assigned to them via random number generator. If you want to request specific cats to fight one another for plot reasons just be sure to note that when you sign the cats up. Cats may also fight NPCs if a certain outcome is required for an opponent (such as death, surrender+execution, severe injury, etc.)
If a cat surrenders or yields during a match (see why below), then the fight will be stopped (by force if necessary by the Arena Keeper and/or certain gang members) and the Gamemaster will decide whether the cat who surrendered will be executed or not. An alternative to death is a severe injury, such as (but not limited to) the scarring of an eye or the breaking of a leg. The match is not considered to be a "win" for the cat who did not surrender, and is usually seen as a throw-away match when counting up wins and losses.
The reason behind a cat surrendering would be if their opponent is about to kill them, but usually fights end before then when one cat is unable to continue fighting. A cat may face death if they try to yield without a reason to get out of a fight. If a cat yields after their opponent is/has clearly tried a death blow, then they shouldn't get any consequences. No death in the arena unless the Gamemaster decrees it.
You don't need to ask for your cat to show up in a thread as an audience member! If they do anything to influence the fight or game, however, you need to ask beforehand to make sure it is ok for the . But if your cat is just chatting or watching the match, just go ahead and throw them in c:
