Larkthorn yawned and stretched out beside the soft form of her sleeping littermate. Outside the warrior's den she could hear the pitter patter of rain against the earth. Huffing at the thought of being drenched all day long, the young calico forced herself to her paws. Her claws curling into her soft bedding as she stretched, and licked down her wiry pelt. Once satisfied that her fur was no longer a rumpled mess, the young molly exited the den.

Ears flat against her skull, Larkthorn padded swiftly across the wet clearing. Her white paws turning muddy brown as she went. Nose wrinkled with disgust the young feline made a bee line for the camp exit. It was still early and the camp was quiet. Nodding to the cat on guard, Larkthorn forced herself on wards her belly rumbling as she went. Knowing she couldn't eat till she brought prey back for the clan, she ignored her angry belly. Her ears perked and jaws parted for the scent or sound of prey.

    The rain was pouring down in sheets, the sky was grey, and Silentkit was hiding under a bush. The spindly plant offered little shelter from the rain, but it made the little silvery kitten feel more safe. Despite the weather, she had ventured outside into camp. Her fathers and sister were all asleep, and she wanted to surprise them with breakfast. But when she came to the spot where the prey-pile was, all the prey was soaking wet. And she wouldn't want her family to eat wet prey, oh no! So a harmless trip to fetch a meal had turned into her sneaking out into the territory to catch something.

    The kitten's tabby coat had blended in with the falling rain and that paired with her small size had allowed her to sneak past the guard without trouble. It also helped that the utter wetness masked most scents, including those of prey. She was out of the gauntlet, all she needed to do now was find something. Which was near impossible in this weather, but maybe she'd get lucky. Daddy taught me how to do a hunting crouch the other day! I just need to remember. Silentkit's tall ears perked up and a pair of owl-like eyes turned to see the blurry form of another cat.

    I can't get caught! Was her initial thought, and she shuffled further back under the bush, hoping to StarClan it would hide her enough. But what if this warrior's nice? Maybe they'll teach me, like an apprentice! I'm not big enough to be an apprentice, maybe I can trick them. Will they be able to tell? Deciding for the "ask this cat for help" option was not hard for Silentkit. She was already soaked to the bone, and her teeth chattered together like no tomorrow. She came after the cat's shadow, having to run on stubby legs to keep up with the adult's longer stride. But she was going a little too fast for her small paws to catch a grip, especially on this wet surface. The silver kitten slipped and tumbled, hitting the sodden grass with a startled "Oof!" She landed on her back, with chin towards the sky. Silentkit squinted to see whether she had alerted the attention of the warrior. I think my cover's been blown!

Silentkit's cover certainly had been blown...

Larkthorn hadn't gone too far when a sudden flash of movement caught her gaze. Head snapping around, she had hoped to see a rabbit or perhaps a mouse. Instead however, her green eyes spotted a the bedraggled form of a small she-kit. Startled to find such a young cat so far from the nursery, she trotted over. Rain plastering her own pelt to her sides, as she loomed over the youngster with a disapproving look.

"And just what might you be doing so far from the nursery?" Larkthorn's mew was stern but her muzzle was gentle as she attempted to help the kit back to her paws. She looks half drowned, the calico thought bemused. Why was she so far from the nursery in this weather? Better yet, where in starclan were her parents? "Well?" She mewed, the rain making her feel irritable. She wasn't a queen and herding kittens up was not her job.

    Silentkit rolled onto her belly, peering up at the cat with her body pressed against the ground. The warrior wasn't especially big, but a whole lot bigger than herself. She had a tortoiseshell pelt of mixed browns and creamy gingers and white. Whether it was the rain or some other reason, Silentkit couldn't completely make out her expression. But the tone of the warrior's voice made it evident that she wasn't happy. The kitten let herself be nudged to her feet, and once on her paws again, she shook a few raindrops off her face. Her sides were tangled with mud now, but she had been soggy and slimy before so the kit didn't really notice, or mind. Whenever she played with Stormkit, she never minded a little mess. That applied to now too.

    The molly's questions stirred up answers in her mind; her father had always taught her to answer questions honestly, especially if they were asked by an older cat. And what would she get out of lying? The idea of pretending she was an apprentice had completely vanished from her mind. "W-well, I wanted to get breakfast for my sister and my parents, but all the prey in camp is wet!" She explained honestly, blinking rain out of her eyes as she craned her neck up to meet the calico warrior's gaze. "So I thought I'd sneak out and catch something n-new for them, but I haven't found anything yet! Then I saw you and thought I'd ask for help."

Larkthorn snorted loudly, looking down her dripping nose at the kit. Yet, she found it difficult to be very mad as she looked into the overly large, innocent eye balls of the tiny molly. "Stupid furball..." She mutters, flicking the kit with her tail tip in an affectionate manner. "You could of been washed away in all this rain. You mustn't weigh more than a mouse!" Glancing around them she hesitated. She knew she should simply march the young feline back to camp but...

"Look..." She says, wondering why she was even considering what she was about to do. "I'll take you with me to catch one mouse. One! That is it! And that is if we can find one in this retched weather." She added, glowering up at the storm grey sky. "But after that you are going back to camp and you have to promise me that you won't wonder out here by yourself again? Okay?" She finished meeting the young feline's gaze sternly. Starclan, don't let her catch cold! She thought.
