Ripplestep picked his way through the cats already gathered at the Great Oak, tail high and a bounce to his steps. Apparently some twolegs had left behind colorful eggs. No cat seemed to know for sure why but it had become somewhat of a competition to the Clan cats that had been sent on missions to gather them, and for once he was eager to join in.

Excitement shone in his eyes as he shot a glance back to his partner. "What if a twoleg kit hatches from an egg we gather?" He mewed half-jokingly, before bounding forward and checking behind a large rock, kit-like enthusiasm seeming to roll off him in waves.

A Twoleg kit? Starclan forbid, they probably stank worse than the grown ones.

"I should hope not!" he chuckled, going about helping Ripplestep search with a lot more of a calm air about it. He couldn't distinguish a scent to these eggs, and thusly he had to rely on his eyes and blind luck as t whether he found one. Perhaps the search was a strange premise, and perhaps it was a little pointless in the grand scheme of things. But he rather enjoyed it. He felt like a kit again.

"Do you think you can eat them?" he shouted jovially over his shoulder to Ripplestep as he tore apart a pile of sticks in search for what was hopefully edible. "The eggs, I mean, not - not Twoleg kits." Oh no, he sounded like a psycopath.

His stick search was fruitless, and he gave a soft titter before moving on.

Nothing. Oh well, it wasn't the hiding place with the highest probability, after all! His adventurous spirit wouldn't be crushed that easily! He began to trot back to see if his partner found anything when Deerflight asked about eating them. Remembering all too well the last time twolegs released rodents into their territory, Ripplestep wrinkled his nose. "You can try it if you like, I'd rather not be stuck in the medicine den again." He responded with a shudder.

"Should I be worried about our kits around you?" He teased in a light purr, attempting to lighten the mood again as he reached his partner, seeing his search had also been fruitless (or, well, eggless). Ah! That would be a good hiding spot! He bounded over to a bush, dropping low to the ground to stick his head under it.

"Found one!" He called back triumphantly, using his paw to bat it out from under the bush, tail held high and waving happily. "What do you think?" He mewed curiously, rolling it over and watching as the colorful egg glinted in the sunlight. Well, it certainly didn't look evil to him.

"No need to worry, really," he laughed, half-stumbling over his words. "I mean, I don't bite." He turned to flash Ripplestep a lighthearted smirk, before playfully baring his teeth. "At least, not hard."

"Oh, you found one? Nice job!" Deerflight sprang to his partner's side - no, it held no real scent, but he sniffed it anyway, in case. Very brightly coloured. Weird. He made a mental note to keep from trying to hatch one. Then again, a pet Twoleg might be useful.

He gave a decisive nod, then turned to search a tree's base, where something had made its home years ago and forgotten about it.

This also proved fruitless - um, eggless - and he raised his head with a small sniff. Surely there were more around here, he mused. Ripplestep had found one, after all. Maybe he could smell his way to the next one?

Ripplestep purred at the playful teasing, waiting until Deerflight finished checking the egg out before shallowly burying it and marking the spot for them to retrieve it later. After all, he hoped they'd find far more than just that one egg to study.

When he looked up again, it was to see Deerflight sniffing the air. The egg hadn't seemed to hold a real scent to him. "Hoping one will fall from the sky?" He teased lightly, running his tail along Deerflight's back as he padded past. He was having a surprisingly good time out here with his Clanmate, and found himself feeling glad he'd been paired with the older tom.

Hmm... Eggs might not fall from the sky, but that did give him an idea. Gathering the strength in his legs, he launched himself at the tree, digging his claws in and climbing swiftly to a branch higher up where he had a better view of the surrounding area. He surveyed the ground, looking for the colorful glint in the sunlight that the egg earlier had produced.

Nothing. With a disappointed rumble in his throat, he worked his way back down the tree to rejoin Deerflight on the ground with a small shake of his head.

"That would be nice," Deerflight laughed, "maybe that's where Twolegs come from!"

He moved to inspect the buried lump before he moved on. He was running out of ideas for hiding spots for the eggs. There had to be more somewhere around here, surely! The tom scrunched up his nose before he puffed himself up a little and strode over to a pile of collected leaves, and other assorted debris. Maybe there was something. It would be disappointing if he didn't find anything himself, but then again, it was all fun and games.

He ripped the pile apart.

Again, nothing! He had seen masses when other teams were searching, and yet he was still eggless. "Dear me, have they grown legs and ran off?"
